How they describe themselves: A boutique company specializing in gourmet frozen desserts, treats and couture accessories for the Modern Day Dog!
Have you seen the little red cart trailed by loads of dogs? That’s Arrfscarf. Though it’s not a truck, we believe Arrfscarf fits into the food truck scene because they gourmet food to a niche market…on wheels!
One thing that we love about food trucks is that their quality is at the same upper echelon as their flavors. Arrfscarf is no exception. “We use only top-grade human ingredients in our doggie treats and ice cream. There are no preservatives or stabilizers of any kind,” says Droz. “What makes us uniquely different is that we only make small batches so our doggie desserts are always fresh and bursting with flavor.”
When we interviewed Droz, she pointed out something interesting: the large majority of Chicago food truck owners are male. That didn’t deter Droz; instead, she channeled her creativity and love of dogs to become one of the few female cart vendors in the United States.
Droz and her team create their dog treats in in small batches using seasonal ingredients. Droz says their treats are yogurt and coconut and almond milk based, they’re non-dairy and contain no preservatives. They offer a lot of fun, dog-specific flavors such as tuna cranberry and carrot carob. Droz said they are excited to be introducing a new flavor soon. “It may even top peanut butter bacon as the number one favorite,” said Droz.
Droz says the growth of her business was as natural as the ingredients she uses. Her dog Suki loved the treats she baked, but passed away before Arrfscarf was even a thought. To honor her pet, Droz started to share her favorite homemade treats with friends and co-workers. The demand grew so high that Droz converted her hobby into a business.
Many people wonder about the name Arrfscarf and what it means. Droz is a former designer, salesperson at Barney’s and a fashionista. Droz created a scarf to keep her dog, Ms. Maru, fashionable and warm even in rediciously cold Chicago winters.
Arrfscarf treats can also be found at Sam & Willy’s in Lakeview. To book the Lick Lick cart for your event, call 773-263-3448 or email andreana@arrscarf.com. Find them on Facebook.com/arrfscarf and on Twitter @arrfscarf.
